Consultation is by appointment
Dial 01563 526514
Please do not request repeat prescriptions during appointments, as time is limited and this is unfair to other patients. Repeats must be ordered in advance.
Phone or call at the surgery to make an appointment. Please be patient if you are held in a queue. We will do our best at all times to keep waiting to a minimum. If more than one member of the family needs to be seen, please make a separate appointment for each one. The Receptionist will ask you some questions about the type of appointment required to direct you to the most appropriate member of the Primary Healthcare Team. If you require an appointment for a specific purpose, such as antenatal, postnatal, cervical smear etc. please inform the Receptionist.
Routine GP appointments
The Receptionist will offer you the first available appointment with the Doctor of your choice. If this is not suitable, alternative appointments will be offered with any Doctor.
Most GP appointments are now bookable on the day however we also offer a limited number of early morning appointments, which are bookable the previous day. If no appointments are available when you contact us you may be asked to try again on a different day. If your problem is urgent please inform the Receptionist.
Urgent/Same Day Appointments
If you need to be seen urgently please let the Receptionist know.
The Receptionist will ask you for brief details of your symptoms and check your contact details. A clinician will call you back to discuss the issue and offer the most appropriate service. We strive to offer quick access to medical care in urgent cases but please note that patients booked into emergency appointments may have to wait to be seen.
We may send you a warning letter if you book then fail to attend an urgent appointment, without justification.
Urgent/same day appointments are not given for the purpose of issuing or renewing sick lines etc. If you require an appointment for this purpose, please book a routine appointment for the relevant date.
Home Visits are carried out by our GP’s and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. They are offered to housebound patients, patients who are terminally ill and patients who would come to serious harm if moved. Home visits are not offered to patients due to transport or financial reasons, children, young people or anyone else otherwise mobile or for social reasons or convenience. Patient’s do not have an automatic right to a home visit; under the terms of working, Doctor’s are required to consider home visits for medical reasons only. If you think you qualify for a home visit please contact the practice before 10:30am. All visit requests will be medically assessed to check if appropriate.
Extended Access to GP & ANP appointment sessions
|Monday||0800 – 0900|
|Tuesday||0800 – 0900|
|Wednesday||0800 – 0900|
We offer pre-bookable GP and Advanced Nurse Practitioner appointments in these sessions, for routine and same day requirements.
This service will be for routine medical conditions and is not an emergency service. The service is limited where doctors will be restricted in their physical examination of patients, and scope to arrange investigation. (This is because of the absence of practice nursing/ treatment room services and lab service back-up which the Scottish Government has decided not to fund).
Patients will therefore not be able to have blood tests, smear tests or an intimate examination requiring assistance from a chaperone, any chronic disease management review, or dressings or ear syringing, but will have to return for a day-time appointment if these services are required. Young children and the elderly who require to be brought to the surgery by working family members will also be welcome to these appointments.
If you become unwell after 5.30pm please call NHS 24 as usual – 111
Appointments: responsibilities of the patient and general information
Do everything you can to keep your appointment and tell us as soon as possible if you need to cancel it, so that it can be used for someone else. We try our best to keep to allocated times – please try to do the same and appear on time. If a delay does occur, bear in mind that this may be due to a medical emergency. Parking is not a Practice issue and if you wish to complain about it you should contact East Ayrshire Council. You should allow plenty of time to get to the surgery and check in for your appointment.
If you are late the Doctor or Nurse may not be able to see you or you may have to wait or make another appointment. Sometimes the Clinician with whom you have an appointment may be unavailable or delayed, due to a medical emergency. Should this arise, we will inform you as soon as possible and endeavour to transfer your appointment to another Clinician within the Practice or reschedule it by offering the earliest available appointment.
We use display screens in the Waiting Area for patient call. These screens beep and display the patient’s name, and the Clinician’s name.
Patients who repeatedly fail to attend or to give insufficient notice of cancellation, or those who repeatedly turn up late without justification, will be assessed and notified in writing and may be removed from the Practice list. Please bear in mind that wasting appointments in this way is unfair to other patients and may be depriving them of medical care at a time that suits them.
It is important that you inform the reception staff if you you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you may be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.
You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays).
If you are Late
Please attend your appointment on time , if you are late you may not be seen.
Please note appointment times may vary during holidays.
If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the Receptionist and this will be arranged for you.
Private Medical Examinations
Medical examinations for special purposes such as pre-employment, fitness to travel, elderly drivers, fitness to undertake sports etc, will require longer than a routine appointment.
These examinations do not form part of NHS Services, you will be charged for any such examination. Please check the fee chargeable when you require to arrange any such examination.
Request for GP Letters/Completion of Forms
If your Doctor has agreed to write a letter for you in connection with your employment or for some other specific area, you may be charged for this letter. If you require this letter urgently please inform your Doctor during your consultation. If you wish your Doctor to complete a form/report for you, there will also be a charge for this.
The reception staff will advise you of any applicable charges.
